It goes without saying that what you put in your body can have significant effects on your mental and physical wellbeing.
The brain, gut, liver axis has started to get some real momentum behind it in recent years, and people are starting to take note!
Now that is all well and good but hands up who has small children who will only eat a particular shape of pasta or is that just me? And actually what makes it worse is that is changes every other week, but I digress.
I am a busy working mum and I simply do not have the time to spend hours making things from scratch. However, I do make pretty much everything from scratch, mainly so I know what has gone in it. I don't make everything and yes we still takeaways and pizza Friday but if you can try and live by the 80/20 rule then you are doing amazingly!

We are busy and life is tiring. Negotiating with smaller versions of ourselves everyday is exhausting so the last thing we want is to be made to feel like we aren't doing enough.
This is why I love the 80/20 rule, we are 80% healthy and clean our house and 20% not!
There is too much pressure to be perfect and quite frankly I am not going through life depriving myself and my children of things!
There are a few little things you can do to make what you feed you and your family a little bit better. And what is even better, it's easy!
Make up a big batch of something like bolognese and freeze it in small portions. That way you can pop one out in the morning and simply heat it up for dinner. It takes the time it take to boil the pasta and you know exactly what is in it.
Meal planning! Honestly it is game changer. I use a 2 week cycle and I put it on the fridge so everyone knows what is for dinner. (saves all the questions.)
Pre-made protein pancakes are the go to breakfast in our house. Again I make a batch and freeze them (do you see a theme here) They are sugar free and packed with protein so really set your little ones up for the day. You can top with chocolate chips, remember the 80/20 rule!

RECIPE
1 Banana
1 scoop of good protein power - I use this one
1 Egg
1 tsp if baking power
Milk to thin
Simply blitz the above in the blender and add enough milk to make the consistancy of thick double cream
Batch cooking

Batch cooking genuinely changed my life (sounds dramatic I know!) but its means that buy Wednesday I'm not fed up with trying to think what to cook and then actually cook it.
It makes me a much happier person and keeps me away from shoving frozen nuggets in the oven.
I am also giving away my meal planning printable. (I actually laminated mine so I can reuse it each time but thats just me!)
