"I have no idea what I am doing!"
How many times have you thought that? I have announced those words on numerous occasions like somehow that gives me a get out of jail free card, but it doesn't really because somehow I still need to work out what I am doing as my son is crying about the fact he cannot find his coat at school and even though I have told him a million times that he left it in daddy's car, he doesn't really get it.
All he knows is that he ALWAYS has his coat and now he doesn't and the only explanation is that he has lost it!
I started to wonder why he is clinging onto the fact that HE has done something to cause this and that he doesn't believe that it was left in the car by daddy in the morning....and then I fell down a rabbit hole...
Why does he automatically blame himself?
Will he now have no confidence for the rest of his life?
Is it something I have done?
Have a caused this lack of trust in himself?
Will he be scarred for life?
Is this all my fault?
You see where I am going, right?
There are 4 types of parenting styles, each with their own positives and negatives.
And if you really start to look into it you soon discover that your parenting can fit into more than one style! (possibly all 4)
I have spent so much time looking into this and trying to find out what my style and more importantly what I can do tweak it to make all our lives better and more connected.
Let's face it no one likes losing their temper and shouting at their children, having to repeat themselves a billion times or just not being able to get them to listen!
We all know that too much screen time is doing no one any good and that using chocolate to get them into the car so you can get them to nursery and you aren't late for work! (True story!)
So here is the thing...
WE ARE ALL DOING THE BEST WE CAN!
But understanding how you parent and finding ways to help can only be a good thing!
I have put together a quiz to help you find out your predominant parenting style and some strategies that you can start implementing immediately to help you create a calmer and more connected environment for your family.
Don't forget to share your thoughts on Facebook and Instagram. AND if there is anything you want me to cover please let me know!
