Doesn't Magnesium seem to be a buzz word these days? But what is it and is it important?
So here is the nitty gritty... Magnesium is a mineral that is essential for so, so many things including healthy muscles, improved mental health and better sleep, which is really important when you are on the perimenopause rollercoaster like me at the moment.
It also helps regulate the neurotransmitters in the brain, which calm your nervous system and helps your body prepare for sleep.
Magnesium works alongside melatonin (the hormone that tells your body to sleep).
This hormone naturally decrease with age, particularly when you enter peri menopause, which would account for many of the sleep issues that arise once you hit a certain age. So it would make sense that the addition of magnesium into your bedtime routine can really help with sleep and the restless legs that go hand in hand with the dreaded menopause!
Not only that but low magnesium as also associated with low testosterone, another joy of the menopause journey and by increasing your magnesium, you can help relieve worry and tension that so often plague the perimenopausal woman (ME!) at night and totally messes with her (MY!) sleep.
I am in the midst of the perimenopause (not sure if I've made that clear 😂) and I got to the point where I was willing to literally try anything.
Most of the worlds population is deficient in magnesium and sadly due to certain farming practises our soil just doesn't have the nutrients it once did.
So I went another way!
As a qualified aromatherapist I leveraged all my knowledge (and the joy of google) to create a sleep balm that is packed full of magnesium and a gorgeous essential oil blend that includes 6 oils known for their sedative and sleep inducing properties. (Yay.)
Adding magnesium into your bedtime routine is a game changer! I find having an Epsom salt bath before bed and using my magnesium bedtime balm have made a huge difference.
I have been putting it on my feet every night for almost a year and I honestly have seen such a difference.
I have also been testing it on my long suffering other half and I genuinely think this needs to be available to everyone so I have decided to launch this (blinking amazing) sleep balm next month!
